Cocktails & Couture - The Party

Don't you hate when life gets in the way of fun things like blogging! I can't believe it's be a year since our last post. We have some catching up to do, so expect a bunch of new posts as we ramp back in to a busy fall wedding season!

Our last post was the invite to the Cocktail & Couture party blueshoe coordinated at Big Rock Little Rooster. Well, the party was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who had a part in making it so fabulous!


The night featured a sneak peek of Bagley Mischka's 2012 couture bridal line! These dresses are amazing!!! We also showed off some great accessories from Mimi's Closet and Ranjana Kahn, and flowers from Rose Bredl. It was all topped off with some delicious cupcakes from Cupcake yum.yum, and drinks from Modern Barology.

Honeymoon locale: Modern Paradise

I was doing some research for our upcoming vacation when I randomly stumbled across The Hix Island House. "A luxurious retreat amidst rustic Zen-like architectural elegance..." says their website. At first glance, this seems like a huge understatement! This natural paradise, designed by modern eco-friendly architect John Hix, was built directly into the hillside of Viequez, an island just east of Puerto Rico. With fantastic views of the Caribbean below, this hotel has all of the ingredients to make a dream wedding/honeymoon come true!

The resort houses 13 lofts within 4 separate buildings. All with extremely modern architecture, open-air terraces and breathtaking views. I'd try to describe more, but honestly I don't know how. Visit website to check out all the pics.

As for destination weddings, the Hix House just opened a new Grand House, "La Casona." The space perfectly fits into to the overall feel of the hotel. It has its own pool and a large open air courtyard, perfect for a small wedding. Again, amazingly beautiful, and very difficult to describe. The hotel website has a nice selection of pictures, also there are some others on John Hix' personal site.

Pricing for La Casona isn't readily available on their website, but looking at their regular rates for the lofts, especially during the off season, this place is very affordable. If you decide to book it, please let blueshoe help you plan your dream wedding, we are dying to check this place out in person ;)

Honeymoon 101

Yes, your wedding day will be the most magical day of your life... You'll spend months making sure it is absolutely perfect. blueshoe loves being a part of this big day! TripAdvisor has become the world’s leading travel site. It has info on every travel destination you can think of. I mean EVERY destination. With info on every hotel, restaurant and attraction near by.  As you can see below, it’s very user-friendly with links to airfare and hotel booking sites, as well as a quick search box to get you on your way. And, of course, they have a mobile app for every platform possible.

Everything is ranked based on advice and reviews from real travelers, who take pride in writing honest, helpful posts. I guarantee you will spend hours on this website reading blogs, looking at pictures, trying to find the perfect honeymoon destination.

My favorite page on the whole site is their “Best of” lists. Every year, TripAdvisor publishes Traveler’s Choice awards showing the best of everything according to their rankings. This is a fantastic place to start your research.

Vendor of the week - Big Rock Little Rooster

I told my husband after visiting BRLR the first time that we would probably be renewing our vows every couple of years. Ladies, the dresses in this boutique will make you want to get married over and over again. The best part is that each wedding could take on a different personality - there really is something for everyone!!! Plus, the staff is absolutely amazing!!

Here are a couple of my personal favorites...

Not only do they carry bridal couture but also bridesmaid dresses and fabulous accessories! Recently they showcased head pieces from Amy Hamilton of Granville Millinery Company.

And, It wouldn't be quite as much fun without a little sass...
